House on the Rock
203 Saux Head, Marquette

Directions: Drive north from Marquette on Hwy 550. Proceed 12.75 miles from the Dead River Bridge in Marquette. Make a left turn Gold Mine Road, proceed 4.5 miles following National Solar Tour signs to the house. Driving time is approximately 45 minutes.
Shot Point Home
380 Shot Point, Marquette

When licensed builder Mike Potts bought a 1960's Lindell cedar home kit on Shot Point in 2004, it was in pretty rough shape. Built as a camp, the home had virtually no insulation and leaky windows as well. Mike and his talented crew took the camp apart down to its foundation and rebuilt it using the original cedar wood. The original camp was made of 2x western red cedar and this materal re-used as board and batten siding. Since the new home is larger than the old camp, white cedar from Trenary was used to make up the difference.
A red pine that had been blown down on the property was recovered with the help of a horse named Jack, band sawed on the property, and turned into a den. To prevent offgasing, all of the wood remains raw inside and out. Mike did everything he could to avoid removing trees since the home is so close to Lake Superior's buffeting winds. The result is a delightfully snug retreat just a stone's throw from Lake Superior.
Directions: From downtown, head south on US41 to Harvey . Turn left onto M28. Drive 9 miles. Turn left onto shot point. House is one mile down on the right. Driving time is approximately 30 minutes.
