Dow Corning and Hemlock Semiconductor donated the168 solar panels to Dow Diamond, the home of the Great Lakes Loons. The panels, located outside the right field fence and adjacent to the outfield parking lot, are designed to generate enough power to operate the stadium’s scoreboard. The solar panels are connected to the stadium’s main power grid and will generate power year-round. At peak performance, the panels will produce 28.56 kilowatt-hours of power. Through the course of a year, that amount of energy is equal to the electricity consumed by seven homes.

Facts about the solar panels:

• Donated to Dow Diamond by Dow Corning Corporation and Hemlock Semiconductor Corporation
• There are 168 solar panels
• They will generate power year-round and be connected directly into the stadium’s power grid.
• The panels are expected to generate enough energy to equal the power required to operate the scoreboard.
• At peak output, the system will generate 28.56 kW per hour.
• In this part of the country an average day (average over the course of a year) is about 4 peak performance hours per day. In the summer it is 6 sun hours and in the winter it is about 2.
• Products Dow Corning provides the solar industry include: silicon feedstock materials, photovoltaic cell coatings, cell encapsulants, junction box potting agents, frame and junction box sealants.

Hemlock Semiconductor produces polycrystalline silicon, the base-material used in the manufacturing of solar cells.

Moreau Home

*This home will only be open from 10:00a.m. until 1:00p.m.*
This home features roof mounted solar panels. Which have been providing the home with the majority of its energy needs for a few years. The family is very pleased with the system and loves being able to educate people about how they got everything set up.

Directions: off M-20, either east of Remus or west of Mt. Pleasant. Turn north on Coldwater Road at the blinking yellow light. Go nearly seven miles. Coldwater curves and changes into School Road. then dead-ends at Airline Road. Turn east and go 0.2 miles east to Roe Court and then turn north. There is a square white sign at the corner with Roe Court on it and the road looks like a driveway. There are just two houses on Roe Court. Ours is the brick house at the end.
